TOP 5 REASONS BLOGGERS STOP BLOGGING

So you have all these ideas and nuances that everyone will grab a hold to and you will single-handed take over the blogosphere *side eye* girl bye!!!!!

just like you there are one million other people out here with some of the very same things to say.

Here are the top 5 reasons bloggers stop blogging.... Or at least the top 5 reasons I stopped!

5. You (I) become uninspired by the thing you blog about ex) This is a natural hair blog - I ran out of things to say regarding my natural hair

4. You (I) don't think anyone is actually reading these blog posts.

3. Your (my) voice is not being heard or effecting change.

2. Coming up with new, different, exciting content that people actually care about is exhausting

1. You (I) just needed a break!

That's it in a nutshell! I just needed a break! I had no idea my "break " would be so long but it was necessary..

So to go along with the ever cliche NEW YEAR - NEW ME slogan I am getting back into the swing of things and I'm blogging again...

THAT'S RIGHT BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHE'S BACK!

This is no longer just a natural hair blog (srry naturalistas) this is a beauty blog! while i was gone I started a makeup business and since it is such a big part of my life I have to incorporate that part of me in these posts.

get ready for metrocitycurly 2.0 the revised version!

I'm excited -- c u girls later

I'm going to record any challenges or setbacks I may have and I'm gonna try to b really diligent in the products I use.... SAME GIRL DIFFERENT HAIR REVIEW... BRAZILIAN DEEP WAVE REVISITED... PROTECTIVE STYLING...

Hey Loves,

Last year January I purchased and installed my first batch of hair from samegirldifferenthair and this year january I did it again! MiaRay had a bundle sale a few months before and my sweetie sweetie surprised me with two bundles of 20' and 22' Brazilian deep wave.

Again the hair came in pretty simple packaging - no extra bells and whistles - but who needs it when your hair is so bomb!

I decided before my install that I wanted to do things a little differently and actually ombre it myself. Lets go into that real quick..

You will need:
  • Clairol BW 2 powder
  • Clairol 20vol creme developer (pure white)
  • Foil, applicator brush, gloves

I've watched some youtube videos and I convinced myself that I could do this at home without jacking up my bundles of hair and even if i did *shrugs* it isnt really MY HAIR!!! I started with the shorter already used bundles from my last install (yes I reused hair) and after I didn't jack up that hair I bleached the longer newer bundles.

I'm gonna tell you where I made my mistake - the first night I went to bleach this hair I should have taken the bleach as far up as I wanted to go the very first time but instead I went back two days later and RE-bleached! I got the look I was going for but my hair is dryer than I would like. The lightest blonde is the frizziest and the driest and I've actually cut off a few inches because of it!

Soooooooooo how do you like your hair??

The quality of this hair is perfect for us natural girls (in my opinion) This brazilian hair has the same weight and same luster as my own hair so it makes blending a styling very easy.

Have you experienced any shedding??

This time around, yes! I am attributing the shedding to the color and the dry ends and not the hair itself

What are you doing to combat the dry ends??

I cant go as long as I did the last install without styling and/or washing my hair. I co-wash this hair more instead of using actual shampoo. I seal with argan and coconut oil throughout the week to keep the ends in check!

Have you straightened this hair??

Yes. Last time I had this hair in I never flat-ironed my weave but its been so cold here in NYC these last couple weeks that I dont even wanna be bothered with water and curls for a few days. I flat ironed it using the chase method and a bit of oil for the ends.

How long do you plan to keep this install in this time?

I dont have a take out date in mind yet but I do want to do more protective styles this year. Its already almost february so by mid march I'm sure I'll be itching for a new style - maybe even braids *gasp*

Would you order this hair again??

Yes! I think MiaRay and samegirldifferenthair.com have a great product so I will continue to be a loyal customer. I want to experiment with blonde for a lil while longer so my next purchase would be from another company that specializes in blonde weave hair.

Going from natural black/brown hair to honey blonde and even lighter is very hard to do. I would recommend spending the extra cash and letting a professional handle that. I also wish they offered closure options -- I want to rock a straight look without having to damage my leave out -- I've nvr had one so I need to do more research before I purchase or review one for you girls.

Overall, I still love my hair.. Yes it is a lil drier and it sheds but neither is unbearable. I will be rocking my hair for a lil while and I'll try to update you occasionally while I have it installed.

HOW-TO.. WASH & CONDITION BASICS 101.. NATURAL HAIR HOW-TO..

AM I THE LAST NATURAL IN THE WORLD THAT DOESN'T WASH THEIR HAIR IN THE SHOWER???????????

I've grown up having my hair washed in my kitchen sink..

Stick your head under the water and hope your momma doesn't drown you.

So up until last month that was the way I always washed my hair.

There are a few problems with this method -- it takes forever to get my whole head wet! IDC how many sections or how I move my head it just doesn't get the amount of water I need for the amount of hair I have and then I seem to always miss a spot! y'all have no idea how many times I've thought I was done only to find a patch still covered in conditioner #sadderday

So enough was enough and I needed to get my big head in the shower.

I made a trip to my favorite store (family dollar)  - a local discount store - and I found the smallest mesh drain cover I could for one dollar... I AM NOT ABOUT THAT CLOGGED DRAIN LIFE!

Now there are definitely some drawbacks to washing your hair in the shower..

  1. The hair -- shed hairs have to go somewhere! And they do go EVERYWHERE! Gross.. Really really gross..
  2. My shower is twice as long now... Wasted water and maybe an impatient boyfriend on the other side of the door
  3. shampoo/conditioner in my eyes -- I might just be a clutz cuz none of the YouTube guru's ever have this problem
  4. My whole body is wet -- OK! This sounds weird but sometimes I just wanna get in there, wash and condish and GET OUT...  now I'm soaking wet, I'm wetting up the floor and I need an extra towel

In this last month I've learned some things that seem to help me out.

  • START OFF WITH AT LEAST 6 SECTIONS
  • DEEP CONDITION B4 YOU HOP IN THE SHOWER
  • HAVE UR WIDE TOOTHED COMB HANDY
  • DETANGLE UNDER THE WATER STREAM
  • TWIST/CLIP/PIN HAIR OUT OF THE WAY
  • RE-RINSE TO MAKE SURE ALL PRODUCT IS OUT
If you need any video references naptural85 has a really good one on YouTube.. My hair seems much curlier since I've switched from the sink to the shower. Stay tuned for more HOW-TO's and BASICS 101.. PRODUCT REVIEWS and RECIPES!

GOOD LUCK.. STAY CURLY!

SHAVED SIDES UPDATE! CASSIE CUT.. HAIR LENGTH JOURNEY... NATURAL CUT... GROWTH JOURNEY

Hey loves,

Ive gotten a ton of emails about my shaved side so I figured why not write up a quick post about it..

OK! If you aren't aware back in July I shaved the left side of my head for my birthday and I instantly fell in love.

IT WAS EDGY..
IT WAS COOL..

JULY 2013

IT WAS TEMPORARY..

AUGUST 2013

My last cut was in August right before my interview for my new job and I was practically bald on one side of my head..

Since my last cut Ive grown about an inch of hair.  I have enough now to slick down with some gel if I want to get fancy.

How do you wear your hair?????

For the most part I wear a part down the middle and no one even notices that my hair is missing. If I decide to do a twist out or braid out I make those twists on that side smaller so after I take them out it is extra fluffy

Have you noticed any change in your hair????

Its still to short to see my curl pattern. The left side is naturally a lot looser and more wavy than curly than the right side so I am interested to see if it will grow in curlier than before.

How are you maintaining your hair????

I really don't do anything differently - no special oil, vitamins, or rituals.. its hair it will grow back!

So y'all already know how I do -- I stash the samples for emergencies and use the full bottles.

Carol's Daughter Hair Milk refresher spray...

It does what it is suppose to do. I wouldn't go out on a rant and say this is the best refresher spray and I fell in love BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTT it wrks! My hair was refreshed. I used this on wet hair straight out  the shower as a leave-in and on dry hair - both ways wrk'd for me.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE SCORE -- B

Its light and airy. It doesn't have any of the NO NO stuff in it. I believe it is curly girl friendly (don't quote me on that). It will refresh and plump up dry hair.

So why B and not an A?

I don't get the hype.. I THINK you can get the same things from misting your hair with water. I THINK  that half of the naturals proclaiming their love for this product jst wanted a shout out on IG from CurlBox. *side eye*

The star of the box for me was the NUNAAT!!!!!!!!!

1st of all terrible name right? what the hell is a Nunaat????

No Lie.. My hair was like curliness personified! That was my fiercest most favoritiest flat twist out ever. I got so many compliments and I got SEVEN DAY HAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nunaat Curl Activator..

I washed my hair and sprayed my new fave (review soon) and decided to give the Nunaat a whirl -- it reminds me of gel but its way too loose to be considered a gel. The fragrance is faint and it doesn't linger.

I wish I could explain how it IMMEDIATELY broke down my hair and I was detangling and twisting in no time.. it was amazing!!! I will warn you not to use too much bcuz it will dry and leave a white flake -- other than that I have no complaints.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE SCORE -- A

It gets an A simply because I got SEVEN DAY HAIR! PERIOD. POINT BLANK.

DAY 1

DAY 7

Have you tried any of these products?? Did they work out for you???

GET UR CURLBOX LADIES!!!!!!!

15 MONTHS AND STILL GOING...

BEER AND NATURAL HAIR.. BEER RINSES FOR HEAT DAMAGE.. BENEFITS OF BEER RINSES

Hey loves,

So I straightened my hair two weeks ago and I am already back curly! I jst stuck my head under the water one morning and waited for the curls to come back..

Curly to Straight

Back to Curly

The transformation is really amazing and shrinkage is REAL!  anyway, back to the point of this post. After the blow fry my hair bounced back with no straight ends but I still thought it needed a Lil something extra. I've been slacking on the DIY TREATMENTS so it was a perfect time to head to the kitchen and see what I could mix up.

I decided on a BEER RINSE..

  • Bottle of beer (I used Budweiser)
  • 2 teaspoons of honey
  • 3 drops of lemon juice

BEER? WHAT? GIRL....BYE!

YES.. BEER!

The hops and malt used in beer is very beneficial to any weak, damaged or lifelessness you may receive from heat.. Beer is always really good for restoring moisture, tightening up curl patterns and producing shine.

So after leaving the beer in overnight (that isn't required I jst happened to fall asleep) my hair was soooooooooooooooooooooooo soft! I've decided that I am going bck to my weekly DIY treatments and beer rinses will be in heavy rotation.

Does your hair smell like beer after?

No.. Rinse thoroughly with cold water and you should not smell like a wine-o after!

Have you ever tried a beer rinse?

Did you see any results?

Try it out and let me know what you think!
